How Dan Nicholl And Jason Goliath Are Beating The Festive Weight Gain

Here's how they beat the festive season's overindulgence.

Not Just For Laughs

Two of our favourite funny men go head-to-head in a weight loss war to see who can shed the highest body fat percentage by 1 April. And no, this is not a well-planned April fool’s joke in the making. Here’s the first update on the #DanVsJason weight loss challenge for 2019.

Towards the end of last year, comedians Dan Nicholl and Jason Goliath announced that they would be taking on a weight loss challenge in collaboration with Men’s Health, Nutritional Solutions and Bright Rock ZA. Although it is a competition, the ultimate goal for both Dan and Jason is to embrace a healthier lifestyle.

But they picked a rather tricky month to start in – December. A month known for relaxation, end-of-year functions, family festivities, and plenty of overindulging, which allows for many New Year’s resolutions. “New year, new me… again.”

So how did the pair handle the holiday haul of over-indulgence?

“I’ve had the best Christmas in a long time, from a health perspective. Consuming less alcohol and being a lot more conscious of what I was putting into my body,” says Jason, also making mention of dietitian Jade Seeliger (Co-founder of Nutritional Solutions), who keeps the two comedians in check throughout the challenge . “Following Jade on social media will also help you remember that you are overweight. She just posts pictures of vegetables every day for no reason,” he jokes.

They sat down to discuss their progress at the Goliath Comedy Club earlier this week…

With only 3 months left of the challenge, it is clear that both men have a good mental grasp of what is required of them – hard work, patience, and commitment.

Jason’s Progress Report

“The reason why I’ve struggled to embrace an eating plan before is because I didn’t understand the logic of my body. I understand now that the things I put in my body have a certain amount of energy, if that energy isn’t used, it will be stored (as fat).” – Jason Goliath

And the 39-year-old has already welcomed a greener looking diet…

Dan’s 2019 Update

“Today marks seven weeks – I haven’t had a jelly baby or chocolate. I got through the whole Christmas without chocolates! And no fizzy drinks either.” – Dan Nicholl

Dan has received weight loss advice and tips from South African trail runner, Ryan Sandes and legendary Protea fast bowler Shaun Pollock – check out those videos on our Youtube channel. We’ll just have to wait and see who Jason has in his corner (besides that Hulk-shake he was drinking).
