The Dan Vs Jason Challenge is in its final stages, and it hasn’t only been Dan Nicholl and Jason Goliath who have made changes to their lives. At the beginning of this 3-month challenge, we invited our followers (those who were brave enough) to take part in this weight loss journey along with the personalities. By entering, they stand a chance of winning an incredible adidas shopping experience to the value of R10 000. Dan will also join the winner on the shopping day, plus the winner will feature in the ninth season premiere of the Dan Nicholl Show come April.

Here’s an update on the five guys who have entered the Dan Vs Jason Weight Loss Challenge.

How has the challenge been so far?

This has been very challenging as my biggest vice is food. I have quit alcohol and smoking from one day to the next but with food it is so hard. I have a roller coaster attitude with it cause some days I am so good with my diet but other days I go completely of the rails with bad junk food.

How has Dan or Jason inspired you throughout the challenge?

What I needed was some motivation, and to see that celebs are doing the hard work to get to their goal weight was exactly what I needed. Seeing that they continue with their normal lives and are still enjoying it has made me realise that diets can be fun, as long as you do it properly.

How much weight have you lost so far?

Currently, I have lost 7 kg but I plan on losing about 15 KG when the challenge is finished. I plan to carry on to my goal weight which I want to be ready for summer 2019. Hopefully Men's Health can get me on a later issue when I reach my goal weight.

How has the challenge been so far?

The challenge has come with mistakes, there were days when I would fall off the wagon but because of the Men's Health challenge and watching Dan, it kept me from not overindulging in food.

How has Dan or Jason inspired throughout the challenge?
Dan inspired me by showing it doesn't matter where you go, whether it is on holiday or functions you can still enjoy yourself and still lose weight.

You just need to find a balance and not overdo it.

How much weight have you lost so far?

I've lost 8.5kg thus far.

How has the challenge been so far?

The challenge was a mess in December, my word, I was drowning in a sea of biscuits, custard and homemade cookies - basically all of my favourites. I went to the gym only to lose a gram today and gain two tomorrow. It was disheartening, but I pushed through it. The change came when I came back to campus because here I have full control of what I eat, so here it's not too difficult.

How much weight have you lost so far?

I currently weigh 92.9kg, as of today, so I have lost 9.32kg, I am pushing for a crazy 88kg by 25 March though.

How has Dan or Jason inspired you throughout this challenge?

I entered the competition because of Jason, honestly, I was like this guy could become a happier trimmer version of himself while I sit here stuffing my face, but Dan soon became a favourite with his weigh-ins because Jason just isn't as open about his journey. I hope the final number on the scale isn't a disappointment, my self-control while at home is typically zero.

Raurie Fraser

  • Occupation: Food and Beverage Manager

  • Start weight: 110

  • End goal: 89

How has the challenge been so far?

The challenge has been exactly that – a challenge. I have found it difficult to keep going at times but I haven't given up yet

How have Dan and Jason inspired you throughout the challenge?

I think what Dan and Jason have showed is that even with a busy schedule you can still put in the time to be a better, fitter you.

How much weight have you lost so far?

The weight loss has been very up and down. I've only lost 2kgs. It's not where I would like to be, but I'll be giving it a big push in March and beyond.

Thomas Brook

  • Name: Thomas Brook

  • Age: 35

  • Occupation: IT Support Specialist

  • Starting weight: 106.5kg

  • Goal weight: Anything less than 100kg

How has the challenge been so far?

Up and down from week to week as it's self driven, with no set training routine, and for me it's more about changing eating habits and cutting out bad foods. So daily life takes its toll and being in IT there is the culture of lots of coffee and fast food deliveries, while staying seated all day in front of your PC.

How have Dan and Jason inspired you throughout the challenge?

I've only seen Dan's posts and I try to avoid social media but it's great to see that even at his age it's possible to make a positive lifestyle change, despite what you might assume is your busy schedule and lifestyle. Healthy options are available if you make the effort and it's never too late.

How much weight have you lost so far?

I've actual been avoiding the scale because I prefer to wait for the end of the period and see what I've achieved rather than closely monitoring and possibly being disheartened when the needle moves in the wrong direction. (I did peak and I'm out of the 100's).
