How To Wear The Classic Chelsea Boot

Whether you’re rocking a weekend look or dressing up for a smart casual affair, the Chelsea boot will hold your outfit together.

The chelsea boot is a time-honoured classic for a reason. Dating back to the Victorian era and later worn by the Beatles (and so of course, everyone wanted to wear them), the chelsea boot is predominantly made from leather or suede, is close-fitting and ankle-high with an elastic side panel, and possibly the most versatile shoe you can own.

But Are They For The Modern Guy?

For sure. In fact, they’re made for the modern guy. First up, they are lace-less with an elastic side ankle, so they are designed to easily slip on and off the foot. Secondly, the clean lines means no awkward bulking under your pants, and you appear taller.  Plus, the simple design means that they can complement a range of outfits.

How To Style Them

Since they are so versatile, they can be worn with both casual and more dressier looks; a relaxed, unstructured blazer is a great smart casual play if you style it with dark denim jeans. And paired with a suit, it screams sophistication.

When it comes to choosing a shirt, casual shirts are a good bet. For summer, look for bold colours and prints that will add some personality to your outfit.  Note: steer clear of skinny jeans or trousers. It can make you look like you’ve skipped leg day. Instead, opt for a pair of slim cut chinos that fit comfortably over the boot’s upper or roll up the cuff of your trousers twice to show off the charm of the boot. Styles in brown and black are great foundations for any smart casual wardrobe, but a pop of colour in the boot can transcend your outfit (pictured here).

Hint: The general rule of thumb – the thicker and more rugged the sole, the more casual the boot.

Keep them Clean

Leather boots need to stay hydrated. Use a hydrating cream a few times throughout the year to keep them supple and to give them a good sheen. If you’ve got a suede pair, a good shoe brush will keep them looking fresh. And don’t forget the importance of resoling.

The CAT Brahm pictured here features a leather upper, soft breathable nylon mesh lining, high cushion foam footbed, a long-lasting and durable midsole, and durable rubber outsole for traction. It is available at selected retailers.
