Back in the day, docs kept guys with high BPs out of the gym.
But no more: weight training may help lower high blood pressure, say researchers in Brazil.
When a group of men with hypertension stopped their meds and lifted weights three days a week for 12 weeks, their blood pressure dipped 11.5%.
“We think weightlifting directly improves blood vessel or nervous system function,” says study author Dr Ronaldo Araujo.
The best part: the men’s BP stayed lowered for four weeks after they stopped pumping iron.
