Worth Your Time? X-Men: Days of Future Past
X Men has always been something of a superhero pig out. There’s not just one guy with amazing, jealousy inducing, superpowers. There are countless mutants, who are all able to do the sort of cool things you could only ever dream of.
Would I pay around R66 to go and watch Days of Future Past if I knew what I know now? Yes and I’m not a Marvell comic, or superhero movie fan.
Days of Future Past, while not an epic, has enough to hold you captivated in your seat.
Does It Have a Compelling Storyline? ( 8 out of 10)
If you’ve ever fantasised about going back a few years with the knowledge you now have and doing things differently, then the storyline of X-Men will appeal to you. Wolverine is sent back to the 1970s in an attempt to change events, so that the current reality, where mutants are hunted and killed to the point of extinction, does not occur. The movie features a younger Professor X, who is a welcome break from the wise– Gandalf like – version of Professor X.
There Will Be Action (8 out of 10)
If special effects, enthralling fight scenes and superhero powers put to creative use make you go “awww cooool”, then this movie is worth your time.
Must I have Seen the Previous X Men Movies? (6 out of 10)
It would certainly help if you can recall some background, but it’s not essential. You can watch Days of Futures Past with an open mind and if you don’t quite get all the time jump mumbo jumbo, you should still enjoy the movie.
Will My Girlfriend Enjoy This Movie (7 out of 10)
Yes. Although it’s no romantic comedy, thanks to a scene involving a nude Hugh Jackman filmed from behind (don’t be jealous gents, try the Wolverine Workout), it should be worth her time. The movie has enough of a compelling storyline to keep non action lovers awake.
The Soppy Romance Factor (9 out of 10)
If Days of Future Past gets one thing right, it’s that there is no overly long, overly soppy love story. It sticks to its core theme: a movie of our favourite mutants trying to save the world.
Downside – Too Predictable
It sort of dulls the tension enjoyment when the ending becomes apparent and predictable from about halfway through.
