The Ingeli SkyMarathon
The first race of this year’s South African Skyrunner Series, the Ingeli SkyMarathon, a race across 42km of the Ingeli Mountain Range, sets off tomorrow (Saturday, 05 April). With over 2000m of vertical gain, its deemed one of the toughest races in Kwazulu Natal of this distance.
In this year’s race, Iain don Wauchope (winner of the Otter 2012, Rhodes Run 2013, Sky Run 2010) will be taking last year’s Lesotho Ultra Trail winner Andrew Hagen and trail speedster Lucky Mia, head on.
“Mamba is the appropriate description for this race – it’ll bite sore in a few places! The route is varied, and consists of both forest and mountain section, with single track, jeep track and tough rocky technical trails,” says Andrew Booth, race organiser,
The event will culminate in the selection of one male and one female runner to represent South African Skyrunning at the world championships in Chamonix, France in June.
There will also be three other trails on the day: a 20km forest and mountain run and two milder options, a 12km and 5km forest trail.
