Support These Dog Rescue Groups To Help Stray Pups Become Man’s Best Friend
April 11th was National Pet Day and we’ve decided to spread awareness for our favourite furry friends. So check out these no-profit organizations if you wish to lend a paw to unloved animals across the country.
DARG (Domestic Animal Rescue Group)
DARG is a pro-life, non-profit organisation that rescues, cares for, sterilizes and gives homes to previously abused, neglected and abandoned cats and dogs. Situated on a large plot in Hout Bay, Western Cape, DARG provides shelter for its rescues through housing an extensive cat garden, cat sanctuary, outdoor and indoor kennel areas as well as indoor rooms for those animals in treatment or rehabilitation. darg.org.za/donate
TEARS Animal Rescue (The Emily Animal Rescue Service)
TEARS Animal Rescue (The Emma Animal Rescue Society) is one of the country’s leading organisations; its mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home domestic animals, as well as provide veterinary services to local communities. All the animals in their care have been abandoned, abused or neglected so following rescue, individuals are rehabilitated using best veterinary and animal behavioural practices to prepare them for adoption into new homes. tears.org.za
So far African Tails have rescued, rehabilitated and re-homed over 1,500 dogs, puppies, cats and kittens, giving them the second chance they need and deserve. The adoption process includes a site visit, official documentation and ensuring that the dog is healthy, sterilized, micro chipped and up-to-date with all vaccinations and deworming. Please contact them on 021 510 7360 to find out further information on any dogs/pups, or if you are interested in adopting, donating, or volunteering. And give them a follow and plenty likes on Facebook and Twitter.
Paws R Us
Paws R Us is an animal rescue and re-homing group based in Midrand Johannesburg, and focus specifically on the rescue, shelter, networking and re-homing of rescue dogs. Their website pawsrus.co.za showcases all the adorable pups that are in need of fostering/adoption, so you can click on a particular dog to find out more about him/her, and whether they would be suited to your home and lifestyle. If adoption or fostering is not an option, there are a number of other ways you can help the plight of these dogs. For example, the Group are currently looking for funding for dog houses to keep the dogs warm through winter.
