Rent These Vampire Movies
FROM DUSK TILL DAWN
The best thing about this movie is Salma Hayek’s outrageous snake dance. The second-best part is the way the movie suddenly switches from a crime caper about two crooks on the run (George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino), to a balls-to-the wall vampire shoot-’em-up.
BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA
Director Francis Ford Coppola assembled a potent early-nineties cast for this true-to-the-original classic (Keanu Reeves, Winona Ryder,Anthony Hopkins). But the show is well and truly stolen by Gary Oldman as the titular bloodsucker. It’s scary, sexy, spooky and thrilling – and it’s the sort of movie that elevates itself above the unfairly maligned horror movie genre.
The original movie blessed us with a long overdue black superhero in Wesley Snipes. He took the notion of the long-fanged, black-caped Transylvanian vampire and kicked it up a notch. The third movie is our favourite, with Jessica Biel bringing the hotness and a ridiculously-ripped Ryan Reynolds the comic relief.
BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER
One of the smartest TV shows ever, it kept the action rolling through seven seasons, giving us the joys of great characters (Spike– you’ve got to love his work),hot vampire slayers (Sarah Michelle Gellar, Elisa Dushku), and spot-on assessments of what it’s like being a teenager, pre-Twilight.
THE LOST BOYS
Jason Patricis a troubled teen who falls in with a bad crowd after his family moves to a new seaside town. By “bad crowd”, of course, we mean Kiefer Sutherland and his gang of vampires. Well worth watching if you haven’t seen it yet. And if you have watched it, you’re probably a fan who wants to watch it all over again.
