Album of the week
Now (That’s What I Call Music) 65
From what started as a deal signed on Sir Richard Branson’s boat, the Now! series has grown into a popular culture institution over the last 30 years. It’s easy to write compilations off as disposable, but they come in handy when you’re out on a day trip to the beach with your girlfriend’s friends and all you have is the entire DevilDriver catalogue lined up on the iPod. Pop in a Now! CD and embrace the simplistic joy. “Roar” with Katy Perry, “Jika” with Mi Casa and “Burn” with Ellie Goulding – think of it as your personal 5FM playlist.

MH recommends:
Karmin’s “Acapella” is catchy as fluff on a velcro strap, Avicii’s “Wake Me Up” is great for the first shift drive on the aforementioned day trip, and the Goldfish soundalikes The Kiffness make good use of Matthew Gold on the superb “Where Are You Going?” Something for everybody, really.

Get the double disc album with free delivery for R130 from Kalahari (not yet available on iTunes).

On our radar
Admit it, you slept on Rudimental. It’s okay, everyone did. Until they took a sledgehammer to the world’s face with the stirring “Free”. There’s at least half a kilo of Bon Iver sound mixed in with Emeli Sande’s crisp vocals (especially towards the end), but we’re glad Rudimental have moved on from the generic drum&bass from their first album.

Grab “Free” for R9 on iTunes.

Muscle Music.
Drake – Forever (ft. Kanye West, Lil’ Wayne, Eminem)

At 158 BPM, this track is good for a super-efficient 80 RPM cycling cadence.
