The month of love is synonymous with the giving of chocolates and flowers to your significant other. But there are other ways to share the love on 14 February. Here are five amazing campaigns that you can get involved with on Valentine’s Day.

1. The Haven Night Shelter

The Haven Night Shelter Welfare Organisation provides temporary shelter, physical care, social welfare and family re-unification services to adult homeless persons in the Western Cape. Since its establishment in 1978, The non-profit organisation has grown tremendously and now has 15 shelters in total. They have partnered with many welfare bodies, service providers, businesses and local authorities in their mission to reduce the continuation of people living in the streets. 2. DARG (Domestic Animal Rescue Group)

Animals need love too! DARG is a pro-life, non-profit organisation that rescues, cares for, sterilises and gives homes to previously abused, neglected and abandoned cats and dogs. Situated on a large plot in Hout Bay, Western Cape, DARG provides shelter for its rescues through housing an extensive cat garden, cat sanctuary, outdoor and indoor kennel areas as well as indoor rooms for those animals in treatment or rehabilitation. 3. Can-Sir

Can-Sir, South Africa’s premier men’s cancer group, is an innovative and exciting non-profit organisation formed to be the organisation of choice when it comes to CANCER awareness, education, and support to those suffering with cancer and their families. They emphasise the importance of regular examinations and early detection of Cancer and to Advocate for men’s health by being the voice of men with Cancer. 4. CHOSA

Children’s non-profit charity organisation CHOSA provides monthly grants and after-school programmes for underprivileged youth. People who wish to get involved can do so by starting their own charitable fundraiser through CHOSA, volunteer to teach the children basic subjects such as language and maths or simply donate to the cause. 5. Visit A Charity Book Shop

Reading is a fundamental part of education, especially for child. Unfortunately, some kids have not been granted that opportunity. That’s why many charity organisations have opened book stores across the country, welcoming the public to donate reading material.
