These Non-Alcoholic Cocktails Will Save You This Ocsober
We know, it’s World Cup time. But Ocsober is also abound and we have to break the rugby-watching rules: the Men’s Health Team have committed to staying sober for the month. And to think 1.3 million litres were enjoyed at England’s Rugby World Cup in 2015, it’s a big ask for sure. But what if we told you you could chug back a cold one without the morning-after misery?
Alcohol-free or Zero-Proof drinks are the latest trend to hit a braai (and bar) near you, and they’re surprisingly not rubbish. We chatted to Andrew Copsey, director of food and beverage at Ideas Cartel, who whipped up a few zero-proof cocktails (made with Heineken 0%) to sub in during halftime. Check out these three recipes so you can get your drink on and avoid the sin bin.
Light & Breezy
A little twist on a Dark & Stormy here, keeping it lighter and more easy-drinking.
- 20ml Lime Juice (half a lime)
- 30ml Pineapple Juice
- 20ml Cold Pressed Apple & Ginger Juice (also easily found at the supermarket)
- 10ml Honey (2 teaspoons)
Directions: Pour all ingredients into a tall glass with plenty of ice, top with Heineken 0% and stir.
Garnish: Pineapple Leaf
Deliciously refreshing ice cold homemade ginger beer.
- 30ml Lemon juice (Half a lemon)
- 15ml Honey (1 tablespoon)
- 15ml Cold Pressed Apple & Ginger Juice
Directions: Add 6 ice cubes to ingredients and blend on high in a blender for 30 seconds. Pour into a tall glass and top with Heineken 0%.

- 50ml Coconut Water
Directions: Pour all ingredients into a tall glass with plenty of ice, top with Heineken 0% and stir. Garnish with a lemon wheel.
