Try These Non-Alcoholic Beer Cocktails During Lockdown
We get it, with the world seemingly coming to an end and lockdown cancelling all your plans, plus questioning your very own existence, you need a really strong drink. But the reality is you can’t buy alcohol right now. And so with the help of Andrew Copsey, director of food and beverages at Ideas Cartel, we put together the next best thing. What if we told you you could chug back a cold one without the morning-after misery?
Even before lockdown, alcohol-free or Zero-Proof drinks were latest trend to hit a braai (and bar) near you, and they’re surprisingly not rubbish. Copsey whipped up a few zero-proof cocktails (made with Heineken 0%) to sub in during the coronavirus pandemic. Check out these three recipes so you can get your drink on, despite what legislation has to say.
Light & Breezy
A little twist on a Dark & Stormy here, keeping it lighter and more easy-drinking.
- 20ml Lime Juice (half a lime)
- 30ml Pineapple Juice
- 20ml Cold Pressed Apple & Ginger Juice (also easily found at the supermarket)
- 10ml Honey (2 teaspoons)
Directions: Pour all ingredients into a tall glass with plenty of ice, top with Heineken 0% and stir.
Garnish: Pineapple Leaf
Deliciously refreshing ice cold homemade ginger beer.
- 30ml Lemon juice (Half a lemon)
- 15ml Honey (1 tablespoon)
- 15ml Cold Pressed Apple & Ginger Juice
Directions: Add 6 ice cubes to ingredients and blend on high in a blender for 30 seconds. Pour into a tall glass and top with Heineken 0%.
