Practising yoga gets your joints (especially the hips!) moving in a way that will prevent injury and help condition your muscles. This helps them to become more sensitive to insulin which is important for controlling blood sugar levels, according to a post by Harvard Health Publications. The study also suggests that yoga can lower the risk of heart disease as much as brisk walking.

The benefits of yoga don’t stop there. It decreased their blood pressure, helped them lose weight and lowered harmful LDL cholesterol levels by 12 points.

An added benefit of adding yoga to your workout routine is that its a great way to cool down after a workout of walking, cycling or any other aerobic conditioning says Christie Kuo, a registered nurse at Harvard-affiliated Massachusetts General Hospital. Kuo also says that yoga helps you to eat more healthy and sleep more soundly, both of which aid in muscle recovery especially if you are doing weight training.

Still not convinced? Here are 5 ripped and flexible yogis who prove that yoga is most definitely for dudes.
