Men's Health |

Like the Olympics showcases the world most skilled and talented athletes, the Reebok CrossFit Games are the world’s showcase of the fittest people on earth. 2014 marks its eighth annual CrossFit Games and the fourth of which Reebok has been the title sponsor. The games are a multi-stage event that began in February where anyone could enter. The Open round recorded nearly 210 000 participants from around the world. CrossFit means being ready for anything that could be thrown at you. This is demonstrated in the workouts of the events and how they continue to change every year and are only announced right before the games.

From the Open round the top athletes from each of the 17 regions around the world would qualify for the next stage known as the Regionals. This stage of the events is a three-day, live competition that then culminates at the Finals being held in LA that kicked off today. Here the top male and female athletes go head to head to be crowned the fittest person on the planet.

This year is set to be one of the toughest and competitive CrossFit games to date. The women’s side is probably the most enticing and tightest races in the history of the Games. The women to look out for would be returning 2011 and 2012 champion Annie Thorisdottir who withdrew last years Games with a back injury. Julie Foucher has also made a return that took a year of for her studies but still keeps up her strenuous training and looks like a top contender. Valerie Voboril is also back and eager to secure and do one better than her third place finish at last years Games.

In the men’s department the obvious choice is three-time champion Rich Froning who will be looking to add a fourth. Other favourites include regulars to the Games Scott Panchik and 2008 champion Jason Khalipa. But the one to keep an eye on would be rookie Mathew Fraser who not only won the North East Regional but also finished second worldwide in the Open and holds the event record for Nasty Girls.
