The Reebok CrossFit Games 2014: Winners
The crowns have been claimed after this year’s toughest competition to date.
The men’s leader board saw top spot change six times during the 13 physical demanding events, over the four grueling days in the Los Angeles heat. But Rich Froning JR won the games to make it four in a row. He beat off the competition from rookie Mathew Fraser who placed second and outshone veteran Jason Khalipa who came in third.
“I went into this year’s CrossFit Games knowing it would be my last year competing as an individual and really wanted to leave it all on the floor”, says Froning Jr. “This year’s events were the toughest yet, and I’m so grateful to my family, fans and Reebok for supporting me throughout.”
In the women’s division, after five years of competing, Camille Leblanc-Bazinet finally took top spot of this year’s games. She shared the podium with 2011 and 2012 winner Annie Thorisdottir and the fans favourite Julie Foucher who finished second and third respectively.
Reebok has been the proud title sponsor of the games for four years now and will continue to invest into the sport. Due to the global fitness brand this year saw a massive increase in the prize purse to 1.75 million dollars with each of the individual winners receiving $275 000 each. It was also the first year that the top 20 male and female athletes all took home prize money.
Reebok outfitted every athlete that participated in this year’s finals from the apparel to the footwear, which included the new CrossFit Nano 4.0. “The atmosphere at the 2014 Reebok CrossFit Games was electrifying,” said Chris Froio, Vice President Fitness and Training at Reebok. “The athletes were pushed to the absolute limit and it was great to see the fans supporting them all the way. With events not being announced until the last minute at the CrossFit Games, it is the ultimate test for both the athletes and the equipment they use, which is why at Reebok we ensure our footwear and apparel can match the pace of the athletes.”
