The Freshpak Fitness Festival 2014

Clanwilliam, situated in the heart of the Rooibos country, celebrated its 200th anniversary with the recent 28th Freshpak Fitness Festival. The event is known as the Western Cape’s largest multisport festival and this year broke records with its entries. Over 1300 participants competed in the various swimming, running and cycling events, which was open to all fitness enthusiasts.

Due to the events popular demand there were 300 entries added and made available for the triathlon event, which is an 800m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run. Other events like the duathlon, which is a 5km run, 20km cycle and another 5 km run or the biathlon comprising of 5km run and 20km cycle were also available to fitness fans wanting to give it a go. There were also events for the younger kids such as the FitKids challenge or Run for Fun.

Bernard Griessel with a time of 00:58:50 and Jonathan Hartzenberg with a time of 01:09:03 secured the number one spots for the biathlon and duathlon respectively.

At the Freshpak Fitness Festival the public was invited to use the services of CANSA by making donations and getting various tests like the PSA finger-prick test that determines the health of the prostate and blood pressure levels, blood sugar finger-prick test, weight monitoring, skin cancer screening and as well as mole mapping done. Along with peoples donations a percentage of the proceeds made from the entry fees was also donated to CANSA’s West Coast region. CANSA and Rooibos go hand in had because of how Rooibos’s anti-oxidant properties fights cancer effectively and forms part of a healthy lifestyle making it an ideal beneficiary.
