Take Your Mental & Physical Fitness To #BeastMode During ‘Lockdown’
Thabang Glen Dladla, or “Fitnessbang” as he’s known by friends, is this year’s first Shower to Shower Men and Men’s Health #BeastMode winner. He’s also the owner of a fitness studio – Bang Studio – in Centurion. The fitness beast not only impressed the Men’s Health judges (and his fellow voters) with an Instagram post flipping a TRX workout on its head and showing off his incredible strength; he also has tips to helps you stay sane and healthy during the nation wide lockdown…
They call him ‘Fitnessbang’
Thabang attributes his success to hard work and constant improvement in his role as a full time personal trainer, group exercise instructor, bootcamp commander and all-round fitness professional! In addition to his physical work, Thabang also works as a wellness advisor and online lifestyle coach – a career choice that is particularly relevant now in times of Covid-19 and lockdown.
“I’ve been lucky enough to host a live workout which forces me to get moving each morning, and hopefully inspires my viewers to stay motivated, inspired and keep strong,” says Thabang.
Here’s how he suggests we keep fit and healthy over the lockdown period and beyond.
Exercise releases endorphins and keeps the mind as healthy as the body. At a time when the world seems a little crazy, use exercise as a mental release whilst keeping your body supple, strong and fit.
Focus on the positive
Thabang says that he tries to stay away from negative news as far as possible. “We’re inundated with bad news at the moment and we all need to make a choice to consume only what is necessary. Focus rather on family and personal development.”
Stress is all around us – whether it’s a global pandemic, work pressures, the pressures of educating your child at home and keeping them happy – it’s everywhere. How you choose to deal with stress is in your control. Don’t let it dominate.
Now isn’t the time to comfort eat and put your body under additional pressure. Nourish your body with the correct foods and give your immunity a fighting chance. Consider what you put into your body – vitamins alone won’t keep you in good health.
Rely on your community
Keep going. Together we can do this. Stay home and keep safety and health top of mind.
Claire Bowen from Shower to Shower Men, the headline sponsor of the Men’s Health Beast Mode competition says that she’s been amazed by the strength and determination of South Africans – both in the physical strength witnessed in the competition, and the resilience displayed by everyday South Africans living through the Coronavirus pandemic. “This unprecedented situation has forced South Africans to rethink their approach to life, and take a lot more care in who they interact with, as well as how they preserve their physical and mental wellbeing at home. We’ve seen physical exercise taking a leading role in people’s homes which makes us even prouder to support this competition, and the ongoing promotion of building strength and fitness.
