Meet Tal Leiboff, The Personal Trainer With A Personality
Fitspiration has become a massive trend on our social platforms, with the hashtag #Fitspo gaining over 66 million posts so far on Instagram. And it’s something that doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. We’ve all seen the cinematic gym trainer videos, the intense workouts and post-gym selfies that (hopefully) motivates us to stop scrolling down our feed and head to the gym. But not everyone finds value in these gym-bro-makes-gains type of content – sometimes we need a more personal and relatable version of inspiration.
Enter Tal Leiboff, a South African personal trainer who’s dedicated his IG to answering people’s questions about fitness, health and nutrition – with a twist…

The 25-year-old from Johannesburg has developed his niche in a way that is informative, entertaining and gives some local flavour to fitness content. So we decided to get to know him better and learn about his approach to fitness, social media and content creation.
(And don’t worry, he kept his answers very PG. Thanks Tal!)
Show And Tal
Leiboff has been into fitness from a very young age and later qualified as a personal trainer at the age of 20. “I was a soccer player and long distance runner as a youngster so fitness sort of comes naturally to me,” he says. “I was working as a first team soccer coach until one day I decided it was time to put my [fitness] knowledge to good use and began my personal training career in 2014.”
Fast-forward a few years and the now full-time trainer is starting his own fitness brand and online training platform called Program 3X. “It started as me just posting 3 exercise videos a week for 3 months in 2018,” he explains.
“I’m now in the process of developing the Program 3X platform. I’m hoping to make it the most educational training and nutrition platform available.”

In order to connect with people and grow his personal brand, the “PT with a personality”—it says so on his Instagram so it must be true—turned to social media and started posting Q&As, memes and his personal take on various fitness-related topics.
“I wanted to find out what people really wanted to know about training and nutrition. So I started my Sunday Q&As. From those questions, I then recognise issues worth making videos about.”
Along with posting regularly and engaging with his followers, Tal’s approach to his IG has many good qualities that any content creator should take notes of. ” I honestly think having a niche is the most important part of being a content creator. Your content needs to have a theme, something people can buy into and follow,” he advises. “There’s nothing like a good story.”
For more about local trainer Tal be sure to follow him on Instagram @talleiboff. Check out his videos and ask him questions. We at MH cannot ensure that he will answer nicely, but there’s a very good chance you’ll learn something.
#AskTal – Rapid Fire Q&A
What are your go-to exercises for building muscle?
“Pull-ups, push-ups and bodyweight exercises are seriously underestimated and under-utilised by many and should 100% be included alongside heavy compound movement and isolation exercises in any hypertrophy programme.”
Who are your fitness role models?
“I don’t have any. Lol.”
What do you think about the various diets that are popular these days?
“I’ve never had a problem with people trying new diets. I have a problem with why they do. Most people try new diets based on misinformation or some promise of superior health or results. You already have a diet, it just needs to be improved slightly.”
What’s next for Tal Leiboff?
“I’ve thought about YouTube. I guess you’ll just have to wait and see.”
