Make Resistance Exercise Sessions Easier
A study in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research wanted to see what would make resistance exercise training sessions easier for people. This study examined the influence of work distribution, which is the combined load (weight), sets, and repetition, on the exertion rates of the participants. It had participants complete resistance workouts that both had the same volume of total workout (sets × reps × percentage of 1 repetition maximum) and work rate (total work volume/time) but with differences in the numbers/times of sets, reps, and loads. They were then asked to rate their exertion 20 minutes after each session. Low load/high rep sessions were rated less strenuous compared to high load/low rep sessions of equal total volume.
