Find Your Sea Legs With These Three Ocean Experiences
It’s already February, and returning to your 9-to-5 means a return to the same job-related stresses. According to this 2010 study, for most people, post-vacation happiness declines two weeks after returning to work.
So how do you extend those feelings of happiness you experienced throughout your vacation? One way is to start planning your next trip. While going on holiday boosts your mood, according to the study in the Applied Research in Quality of Life journal, the act of planning your holiday could increase your feeling of happiness more than the actual trip.
And if one of your New Year’s resolutions was to learn a new skill or spend more time appreciating the wonders of the ocean, we have three ocean experiences based on KZN’s South Coast that will make for the perfect adventure holiday.
1. Take In The Ocean
Who says beach vacations should be limited to summer? KZN’s south coast boasts beach weather all year long. Experience the bliss of warm weather and picturesque views of the ocean on your next winter vacation with this ocean experience.
Gain insight about the dangers of the ocean, and learn about the creatures that inhabit it. Go shark cage diving, scuba diving, visit the CrocWorld Conservancy and go on microlight flights. You can also choose between a free surfing or SUP lesson.
Watch breathtaking sunrises and sunsets with a group of friends, family or with your significant other. You’ll stay in an old-school wooden cabin situated away from the bustle of city life.
Ready to become one with the ocean?
2. Learn To Surf
Put your best foot forward with this spectacular trip. Experienced instructors will teach you how to surf at beaches which are user friendly and safe. Choose between a four or seven night stay. Your trip includes two half day surf lessons, plus a full day ocean experience. You’ll leave feeling comfortable and confident on a board.
During your trip you’ll stay in a wooden cabin located in a beautiful coastal forest. The cabins are a stone’s throw away from a pristine conservancy beach. Make use of the cabin’s braai and entertainment area to unwind after the day’s surf, too.
3. Learn To SUP
Feel more confident with a paddle in your hand? Stand up paddle boarding is a great alternative. SUP is becoming an increasingly popular water sport. The sport makes for an incredible recreational activity for the whole family, while improving your fitness levels. Your core will thank you later.
Instructors will take you through the different types of SUP on offer. Learn to SUP in the Scottburgh area – where you can choose between tranquil, scenic, flat waters or riding the ocean waves. To ensure your SUP experience is both safe and enjoyable, instructors will also give you key ocean and water knowledge.
Choose between a four and seven night stay. Your place of residence for the trip will be in a forest, filled with bird life, located three minutes away from the beach.
