Upgrade your bathroom and watch the steam rise.
The starting point for any bathroom upgrade is getting the right stuff in it – apart from looking good, quality products make you feel frisky too. To start, Wella’s System Professional SP range is a superior haircare range, plus their silver-grey packaging is damn smart. Then, Nickel Super Clean Body works like a shower gel, but cleanses your skin as well, and Clinique’s Hair and Body Wash in their Happy for Men range is a treat. The Brazilian-made O’Botticario range has caught my eye since it matches quality with good pricing. Once you’re out the shower, get Clinique’s SPF21 M Protect lotion, or Dermalogica’s new SPF15 Daily Defense Block. And to round it off with a luxury soap, you can’t go wrong with Crabtree & Evelyn – go for their jojoba oil triple-milled soap.
Two things shift the bathroom experience. First, a Jeeves heated towel rail. It just makes the whole thing feel right, and their self-regulating system with built-in thermostat means they draw power only when required. Add to that the luxury towel – a bamboo-cotton blend. They’re naturally antimicrobial, which makes them great for allergy sufferers. But most importantly they’re incredibly soft on your – and her – skin and come in a range of subdued colours. Get them at Woolworths or @home.
For a whole new shower system, change those stock-standard fittings and go for a range from Hansgrohe. Lots of tall guys get blasted in the neck by the showerhead, which is why you should look at installing one of their rainfall showerheads (those giant saucers with a wide spray of water), or check out Hansgrohe’s adjustable range: you can change the height and angle of the showerhead at will. Don’t rule out Cobra, which also has a superb range of more affordable, SA -made fittings which have received the necessary design upgrade.
It’s simple to upgrade your fixtures to the top end as well, where you’re dealing with stately looking nickel or stainless-steel products. One of our favourite brands is the German company Dornbracht; their designs are modern and sleek without being severe. But they cost a mint. Next in line would be the range from Crestial.
