Not all jeans are created equal. Experiment with different shades to shake up your look.
1 Earl Grey
Grey denim offers a discerning alternative to blue or black. It’s great for work if your office dress code doesn’t demand a suit, and it can be dressed up with a jacket for a smart casual event. Plus it transitions well from day to night. Going grey also lets you dabble with the double denim combo. Pulling off double denim is all about contrasting shades – grey jeans with a dark denim shirt makes a great team. KYLE: Printed shirt R549 Element, pit crew rubber strapped watch R1 295 Ferrari at S. 2 No-Fail Blues
Dark denim remains your best bet for smarter looks and don’t think it’s just best for pants – invest in an indigo shirt or jacket. But remember, don’t rock all of your dark pieces in one outfit. Pair dark jeans with a shirt for a smart, office look; or add old-school brogues for a more low-key vibe. Feeling daring? These printed denims are one way to grab her attention. Just be sure to keep the rest of the look clean, avoiding patterns and sticking to the basics. 4 Night Rider
Black denim is classic rock ‘n roll and it comes in a multitude of washes. Keep the cut slim – dark and baggy denims will make you look like an aged Mick Jagger. They’re perfect if you’re heading out on the town, just add a graphic T-shirt. 5 Fade Away
For jeans with real personality, you want a pair that looks lived in enough to look comfortable, but not too worn so they look like you stopped doing laundry. If you’re not sure where that line is, invest in a pair of pre-washed jeans. You want a pair that has touches of subtle white thread creeping through, but avoid those pairs with large white faded patches – they can look cheap. Wear with bright colours and a simple T-shirt. 6 Denim Shirts Aren't Just For Cowboys
Remember those acid wash denim shirts your dad wore in the Eighties? They’re making a comeback. Make sure you don’t look dated by wearing a denim shirt with a pair of stone washed jeans. As for the wash, keep it subtle. And remember, denims shirts are perfect for casual weekends. 7 No More Blues
The right pair of jeans may be timeless, but that doesn’t mean you don’t need to switch them up now and again. Try some red denims, we know the colour isn’t for everyone, especially guys who like to play it safe. But red works on most skin tones, making it the most versatile bright of them all. Wear it with confidence and keep the rest of your look neutral. A navy blazer with a shirt and tie, a simple V-neck knit, or just a T-shirt and sneakers are easy style options. 8 Lighten Up
We’ve been praising darker denim for so long, that a lighter wash seems outright refreshing. The new breed of medium-to-light wash jeans look perfectly worn but stay far away from outdated stonewash. But don’t completely shelve your favourite dark jeans, just add a lighter contrast to the mix. Match them with neutrals – navy, white, and greys – as jewel-tones and pastels can clash. The lighter wash is inherently more casual, so make these your go-to Saturday pair.
