Your early morning coffee run shouldn’t be in your bottom-of-the-drawer hoodie. Our fashion editor trawled the high street to find the best looks for every guy

1 The Boss
This guy looks like he’s in charge… but he’s not even wearing a tie. And he doesn’t have to: there’s already enough going on in the details. The unexpected blazer looks great over the printed shirt and the subtle colours mean the shirt and jacket are working together, instead of competing. Add some classic leather wingtip brogues, for a touch of sophistication.
2 The Geek
Here’s a simple – and effective – way to refresh your wardrobe. Just add colour to your look. And go big, like this guy has. Your chinos can be coral or teal – or any other shade that appeals to you. Just be sure to keep the rest of your gear sharp and simple. If you’re not yet ready to ditch your neutral colours, ease into brights with bold socks. You’ve got to start somewhere, right?
3 The Street Captain
This is a simple look to pull off. The classic double-breasted navy blazer (now in a knitted fabric) makes it modern, but reserved. Here’s how to wear it: leave the jacket unbuttoned completely, and inch the sleeves up a bit – if only to show that you’re not taking yourself too seriously. Finally, make a statement with your sneakers. Go for bright soles or contrasting laces.
4 The Businessman
If you’re a classic guy with tailored taste, then this look is for you. Just use a shirt to spruce up your single-breasted suit with interesting prints and textures. A bow tie will liven up your 9-to-5 uniform and dress shoes (without socks) will assert your confidence. Oh, and one last rule of thumb: leave the bottom button of your jacket undone.
5 The Sportsman
It’s really easy to pull off a sporty look without looking like you just stepped out of the gym. The secret? A basic baseball jacket. Wear it over a T-shirt or denim shirt, and the colour blocking will do the work for you.
6 The Urban Warrior
Sure, you’ve seen camouflage before… but in navy? That’s the key to camo: don’t get carried away with the colours. Take your cue from this guy, and keep your look mature and modern by rocking the camo pants with other classic pieces. And remember the fit. Your oversized cargos should be stashed away safely in the garage.
7 The Guy On The Go
Try to create a balance between sleek and rugged. Keep the top half preppy and conservative and the bottom half chilled and playful. So break it up with rough turn-ups and rolled-up sleeves, and ditch the loafers in favour of a pair of high-tops. This isn’t a look for the office, it’s one for the streets.
