Every guy likes a woman in high heels. Lots of research across various cultures has shown the importance of physical features, such as body size and the style and colour of women’s clothing, which can influence a man’s behaviour towards women and how they judge them. The link between high heeled shoes and sexiness has always been implied by the many models wearing such shoes in magazines and adult films but this French study published in Springer’s journal Archives of Sexual Behaviour is the first to investigate the effect of a woman’s shoe heels on men’s behaviour.
Nicolas Guéguen, of the Université de Bretagne-Sud in France, set out to conduct experiments in the field in order to test the influence women’s shoe styles had on men’s helping behaviours. Firstly he observed what happened when a woman in flat shoes asked people to complete a survey and if they were more readily compliant when the same woman was wearing high heels. Secondly he tested whether or not the spontaneous urge people have to help and how it changed when the same woman dropped a glove and was in either flat shoes or heels.
What the study found was that most men’s helpfulness increased along with the heights of the heels a woman was wearing. In a final experiment that he did it was found that men when at bar were more quicker to start chatting with a woman in heels than flat shoes. These results reveal how men tend to focus more on the women’s physical attributes when judging and interacting with them.
He has speculated that because sexy female models often wear such shoes in the media that men have started to associate these women who wear high heels to have sexual intent but more studies and research is needed.
