The workout Selfie is happening in gyms and homes across the world. Workout gear has never looked sexier!
1 Cultural movement
The Selfie is a cultural movement so prevalent that the Oxford English Dictionary named it “word of the year” for 2013. And no prizes for guessing that the word has an Australian origin – the same folk who have gave us the words barbie, boardies and other diminutives that sound like a question when you say them?
2 Social currency
The self-portrait photograph is typically taken with a camera phone, usually at arms length and in a tilted manner, or in a mirror, and then uploaded on a social networking site. Because if a Selfie isn't shared did it even happen?
Millenials, aka the “sniff-my-fart” generation, have taken self-awereness to the next level.
4 Checking in
Now we believe that the only time a dude should have his phone out at the gym is when he’s doing our ELITE challenge. However, as these pictures will attest, women taking hot gym Selfies are a godsend!
5 After photos only
That’s just as long as that girl can lift (we don’t need any duckface/fake sleeping/you and your bffs eating Cheetos on the couch, thankyouverymuch).
6 Share if you like, like if you care
Now the whole point of a Selfie is to present a flattering image of yourself, with validation coming in the form of likes, shares, favourites, retweets, reblogs and digital hearts that are made up using the less than sign and a three <3
7 This is me
Some say that the Selfie is about the photographer taking control of how their image is presented to the world.
8 Something sinister?
Others have described the Selfie as “the male gaze gone viral” and the “pornification of culture”.
9 Don't stop the seflies!
Ultimately it's about being social and while jealous people will see hot gym selfies as narcissistic, most will agree that the amount of work that has gone into building a beautiful body is admirable and something worth celebrating.
