Rosmarinus officinalis, commonly known as rosemary, contains the natural compound of rosmarinic acid. This acid has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that can also be found in Perilla and garden sage. It is has been used for the treatment of asthma and reactive airway diseases and allergies such as allergic rhinitis, otitis media, chemical sensitivity and multiple allergen reactivity.

The Journal of Restorative Medicine studied this acid and its effects on alleviating such allergies. Because there are many airborne pollutants which can increase incidence of allergies, asthma and lung disease – especially in children – trials have been tested and the results have yielded that Rosmarinic acid is a safe part of a treatment plan and will work in the prevention and treatment of asthma and allergy. The acid has had a long-standing history of safe use in alternative and traditional therapies too.
