Here’s how to remember…
Focus as soon as you meet someone new. “Attention at the time of learning is the most critical thing,” says Squire. “Second is rehearsal; third is relating the name to something.” So repeat the name (“Nice to meet you, Frank”), and then create a mental image linking it to an object (eg. Frank eating a frankfurter).
Too many PINs? Turn them into words that correspond with the ATM keypad (like 2274 for CASH). For website log-ins, create an album on your phone of visual triggers eg. if a photo of friends represents Facebook, you could use “Buds4Life.” Image-based codes are difficult to crack and highly memorable.
All that cramming in varsity was about as smart as the rounds of vodka shots. “If you study for five consecutive hours, you won’t remember nearly as well as if you study for an hour five times a week,” says Dr Francis Crinella, co-author of Brainfit. Review facts before bed: shut-eye helps bolster memories.
