When we are confident about ourselves and what we are doing with our lives, we tend to succeed in our endeavours. Dr John Demartini offers 10 steps to living confidently

1. Save money
Wise financial management and even financial independence is a vital aspect of self-empowerment. When you save, invest and manage your money wisely, you attract more money to manage. When you start to earn income from the interest of your saved and invested money you enter into a position where money no longer controls you. Save at least 10% of your earnings each month and even more as you approach your 40s or older. If this is too much to start with, then start with as much as you can. As you increase your savings, and begin to wisely invest, you will feel a greater level of self-confidence and worth. This will open you up to be guided by inspiration rather than desperation.

2. Know where you are going
Clearly define what you would love to be, do and have in your life. Don’t let others decide your dreams. If you have a clear, concise and realistic road map, it’s much more efficient to get somewhere. Your energy soars when you are clear on your aim and direction.

3. Surround yourself with people who inspire and uplift you
People who think big allow you to expand. You cannot put your hand into a pot of glue without some of it sticking and likewise you cannot interact with inspired and mind expanded people without some of that rubbing off on you.

4. Affirm the person you would like to become
Affirmations are statements we make that we desire to make firm in our minds. They are statements we may say to ourselves about ourselves or our lives. Rather than making statements about who you have previously been, start affirming now in the present who you intend to be in the future. As an example: “I am a confident, powerful and decisive individual. I am inspired by my clear mission of service”.

5. Read a lot
Whether it is a specialized text in your field of expertise, a self-help book, or a great novel, purposeful reading opens your mind and expands your vocabulary and empowers your actions. Reading can assist you in speaking with poise and confidence.

6. Count Your Blessings
Keep a gratitude diary and take note of what you have to be grateful for each day. You will be amazed how this shifts your perspective and actions.

7. Eat less, eat regularly
Eating too much will slow you down and make you sluggish. Eating moderately at regular times every day will assist your body with its digestion and optimise your physical function.

8. Smile
Smiling tends to change your physiology and creates the impression of vibrancy and youthfulness. It is contagious.

9. Complete Things
The more you intentionally do simple things and complete them, the more you train yourself to do what you say you will do and the greater will be your confidence and level of achievement. Start with a checklist of simple daily actions. Give yourself rewards for their completion. Ask someone to assist you to be accountable if need be. Keep expanding the accountability of your actions.

10. Transform your Baggage
Many people walk through their lives dragging their emotional baggage because of misperceived past events they have never appreciated and loved. Just in case you’re carrying any unnecessary loads, I encourage you to do this one thing now. Make a list of every single thing in your life that you resent or anything you have never loved -anything you think you made a mistake on, whatever you think you could have done “better”. Then go through those items, one by one, and ask yourself: how did it serve me? How did it serve others? Respond to these two questions again and again until you discover the benefits of these actions and events and see the balance, the order and the gifts resulting from them in your life – and in the lives of others. Carrying around unnecessary baggage is unwise.
