Q: When I hang with my varsity buddies, all we do is talk about the old days. Why can’t we move on?

A: Don’t sweat it. There’s nothing wrong with having work friends, varsity friends, neighbourhood friends, golf friends – the whole lot.

Your conversations change depending on who you’re talking to. As long as you’re not seeing these guys every weekend and replaying the same drunken parties every time (or getting wistful for the same drunken girls), I don’t see anything wrong with the flashbacks.

But if it’s putting you in a real rut, sign everyone up for a golf tournament, or run a big race together. Find something that’ll bridge the past to the future.
