Curious about the colour, smell and density of your pee? See what it may indicate about your health.
This indicates that you're drinking a lot of water, and maybe just a little too much. Perhaps cut down on your water intake a bit - you don't want to become overhydrated.
2 Pale Straw
Good colour pee to have. Everything seems normal: a sign of good health and optimal hydration.
3 Transparent Yellow
You can relax: everything seems normal.
4 Dark Yellow
You're okay, but nearing the borderline. Get some water in soon.
5 Amber or Honey
A clear sign that your body isn't getting enough water. Make your way to the tap or grab a bottle of water NOW.
6 Syrup or Brown Ale
Could be one of two things: you're either severely dehydrated or worse; you could have liver disease. Down some water regularly every day, if it persists - see your doctor.
7 Pink - Reddish
If you haven't had blueberries, rhubarb or beet recently, this is worrisome: it may be a sign of blood in your urine. Could be anything from kidney disease, tumours, urinary tract infections, prostate problems to lead or mercury poisoning. Or it could be nothing. Best you make your way to a doctor.
A tricky one: could just be food dye or a liver or bile duct condition. You're not drinking enough water. Best you see a doctor.
9 Blue or Green
This could be a hereditary disease turning your urine blue or green, a bacterial infection or just the food dye from something you ate, or meds. See your doctor.
10 Foaming or Fizzing
Could be caused by excess protein in your diet or it could be a kidney problem, or just a harmless hydraulic effect, if occasional. Best you see a doctor if foaming occurs regularly.
