We all know that smoking is bad for you, but it turns out that being extremely obese may kill you faster than lighting up.

A study published in Plos One found that smokers with a healthy weight, lost nine years of their lives due to the habit whereas non-smoking extremely obsess adults (between 55-55.9) were likely to lose 14 years of their lives on average.

The researchers analysed data from 20 large studies which included self-reported information from 20 000 obese adults and 300 000 with a normal BMI.

Heart disease was the major contributor to the higher death rate in the obese individuals, followed by cancer and diabetes.
