While exercise has many health benefits, oral health may not be one of them. A small study conducted by German researchers studied the effect exercise had on 35 athletes and a control group of 35 individuals who did no train.

The athletes showed “an increased risk for dental erosion,” according to the study. They researchers also found a significant correlation between weekly training time and tooth decay, this is, perhaps in part due to exercise-related decreases in saliva production.

The small study is not conclusive, but it’s always a good idea to take extra special care of your teeth.
