There is more to a man’ sperm than what is commonly associated. Medical Daily has listed a few facts pertaining to our baby gravy.

1. There’s a difference between ‘sperm’ and ‘semen.’

No, they are not the same thing. Sperm cells are actually a part of semen, “Semen is the whitish, viscous fluid released from the penis”, according to MedlinePlus. Sperm leaves the body through the mix of bodily fluids that makeup semen.

2. 90% of sperm ejaculated is deformed.

Your sexy swimmers are not all equal. Some may have defects in the head, neck, tail such as – coiled tails, more than one head etc. These defects affect the sperms ability to reach and fertilize an egg. A normal sperm cell has an oval type head with a long linear tail.

3. The temperature of healthy sperm is important.

Your testicles always stay cool, no matter how heated your body gets. This is needed for healthy reproductive sperm. One of the ways your body does this is by controlling the muscles in the scrotum, which contract and release in order to situate the testicles closer or further away from the body, this controls temperature.

4. Sperm comes in both genders.

We have female swimmers and male swimmers. Not all sperm are chromosomally male. According to Harvard Health Publications, female swimmers are stronger than male swimmers.

5. Healthy Sperm Needs To Mature

Sperm regenerates at a rate of two-and-a-half to three months in order to mature into healthy reproductive sperm cell.

6. One testicle can make enough sperm to form a fetus.

Use it or lose it? We can afford to lose just one. According to Medical Daily “Men who have one testicle may be just as fertile as a man with two testicles”.

7. In Vitro Fertilization Can Use Dead Sperm To Make Babies

The process of in vitro fertilization (IVF) makes it possible to use dead sperm to help form a healthy fetus. When combining a sperm cell and an egg and then transferring the embryo to the uterus manually the way IVF technicians do. According to Medical Daily, “a sperm cell may be “killed” after being beaten with a technologically advanced glass straw used for this process”.
