Researchers randomly assigned 126 adults with self-reported frequent upper respiratory tract symptoms and infections to take either 600mg of a bovine lactoferrin/ whey protein Ig-rich fraction or a placebo daily for 90 days. Three-quarters (90 patients) completed the trial. Neither the researchers nor the participants knew who got which until after the study was complete. Those taking the supplement got far fewer colds during the study and there was a trend that suggested duration and severity of colds was also lower.
