When sickness causes colleagues at your office to stay at home like it’s the festive season, it may be time to assess the germ risks to ensure you’re not next.

1 Your Desk
There’s 10 million germs and 500 different types of bacteria located on that desk that you spend a third of your day working behind. If you’re serious about avoiding winter sickness, wipe down your desk at least once a day, and don’t forget your keyboard. A one survey found that keyboards have up to five times more germs than a toilet seat.
2 The Office Kitchen
Research has shown that kitchens contain dangerously high levels of coliform - a bacteria found in feces. Prime bacteria real estate includes behind the fridge door handle, and kettles. Your move: Remember and apply what your mom told you about regularly washing your hands.
3 Public Transport
Yes cars are expensive and yes with a constantly increasing petrol price, it makes sense to catch use public transport to get to work. Just make sure you wash your hands properly when you climb off. Research from the University of Nottingham in England found that people who've taken the bus recently are six times more likely to catch a cold when compared to those who didn't.
4 Your Cellphone
Worried about that Ebola outbreak in West Africa? The Daily Monitor in Uganda reported that a man caught Ebola after stealing a cellphone from a hospital patient. On the upside, one touchscreen manufacturing company is reportedly making the world’s first germ killing touchscreen. The screen incorporates ionic silver, the company claims that it kills up to 99.9 percent of germs.
