Cancer Outcomes Not As Grim As Movies Portray
Somethings aren't always better on the big screen...
The portrayals of cancer in the movies don't necessarily reflect the reality of having cancer.
This is according to a study presented at the European Society for Medical Oncology 2012 annual meeting.
Researchers analyzed 82 movies about people with cancer. In 63% of the movies the patient died.
The pattern of dying from cancer is "so strongly standardized that it persists in spite of real progress in treatments," according to the researchers.
Things are not so bleak in real life, they note. Commenting on the study, Prof. Christoph Zielinski, President of the Central European Cooperative Oncology Group says, "In reality, it is much more living with cancer, being diagnosed with it, being treated and, finally surviving it which dominates human life."

Thank you for providing this useful post!I finished nursing school and I work to an Oncology Hospital.Cancer is a terrible disease that influences people's life and behavior. It has a lot of faces and it is very difficult to deal with people who suffer of this terrible disease as the majority are vulnerable.
Unfortunately cancer is affecting more and more people and it is very difficult to cure them as there are very few drugs and therapies and the majority of them have serious side effects. It is very difficult to define cancer but there are certain symptoms that should draw your attention.
