In winter, you can layer up. In summer, you only need a few layers – and fewer moves in which to make a statement. Think about it: your options are basically shorts and a T; jeans and top; or chinos and a shirt. An overcast day may wreck your beach plans, but it will let you add a layer – and that jacket will lend a tailored edge to your casual outfit. It works perfectly with jeans and a T-shirt, but never with khaki chinos. (If you want to go all-khaki, join the Scouts.)
