This past weekend marked the official start of summer. We don’t care what the calendar says, until there are girls in bikinis, ice-lolly salesmen shouting creatively worded marketing ditties, the smell of sunscreen in the air and a distinct lack of parking space – we’re not convinced.
So at the first sight of these harbingers of good times we rushed off and bought a new beach umbrella (we’re yet to find something that can withstand the Cape’s Black South Easter and last more than one season), and then packed in the beach bats, filled the cooler-box with beer, grabbed every single wave-riding craft in the garage and threw in a new addition to our beach bag, the Nixon Blaster.
Ever heard of beach envy? It could be the dude rubbing cream into the girl in the Brazilian cut bikini, or the dude with the Cover Guy abs, or the dude with the cooler-box full of ice-cold beers… Yesterday it was our crew.
All thanks to a beach essential that arrived just too late to make it into our December Gear Guide. We’ll save you the wait and tell you that the Blaster rocks. Or Blasts. And while the aforementioned examples of beach envy might turn those around you green, the Blaster lets them in on the action by being loud enough for everyone to enjoy. Unless they were looking for a peaceful day at the beach, that is.
Okay, so why does the Blaster rock? Well for one there’s no need to leave your precious iPhone sitting in the sand, connected by a flimsy wire. Bluetooth Connectivity allows you to leave your phone protected in your bag while you blast beats. And then because the Blaster is a totally-sealed, solid, rubberized rectangle, which has been designed to withstand the elements – sand, sea, a salty sea-dog running off with it – you only have to worry about your music selection.
The clincher? 12 hour battery life! Sure your phone will probably die after a single album, but then you just need to get the people around you involved and connect to their phones.
This is also a great way to pick up women at the beach.
