Double The Portion, Half The Guilt, Bangers and Mash Recipe
In winter, your brain decides no amount of mash is ever enough.
You have two options, says nutritional scientist Jane Baker: “Use Yukon potatoes [or other waxy potatoes], which are naturally creamy so need no milk or butter, or a mash of swede and carrot. Even a double portion will have nowhere near the glycaemic load, fat content or carbs of normal mash.”
Go with grilled 80% meat sausages and treat yourself to an extra couple.

The MH version: Calories 550 = 2 293 Kilojoules
Double the portion, half the guilt, Bangers and Mash Recipe
Serves 1 – 2
3 medium raw, peeled turnips, chopped
4 large raw, peeled carrots, chopped
1 tbsp honey (optional)
2 tbsp olive oil
Place chopped turnips and carrots in a large pot
Add enough water to just cover the vegetables and bring to a boil with the lid on.
Boil for 20 minutes, or until soft.
Drain, return back to the pot and add the honey and olive oil.
Mash and season to taste.
Serve with chicken sausages for a delicious low-fat meal
