There’s no reason to buy a jar of tomato sauce – ever.

Not when you can make your sauce from scratch in the same time it takes to boil water and cook pasta. This simple version, flavoured with golden-brown onions, salt and pepper, is less expensive and just plain better than anything at the store, and it has no preservatives or sugary additives. Make a big batch and toss with pasta (of course), deploy it in a range of Italian recipes, or just dunk some crusty bread right into the pot. Freeze any extra in a resealable bag or plastic container.
