These nine foods provide almost no health benefits and are harmful to your health.
1 White Bread
White bread and refined flours contain almost no fibre, vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients, making it hard for your body to digest it properly and assimilate what you're eating. Even worse: refined white flour goes through a process of bleaching with chlorine and is brominated (combined) with bromide - two poisonous chemicals associated with causing thyroid and organ damage.
2 White Rice
Like white bread, white rice is as nutrient deficient. What's worse is that the bran and germ gets separated, which are two natural ingredients that make up brown rice. And don't be fooled by "fortified" white rice either, as the body processes this refined food much differently than brown rice. The body absorbes brown rice more slowly and it doesn't cause the blood sugar to increase as it does when consuming white rice.
3 Frozen Meals
Don't allow conventionally-prepared frozen meals to freeze you out: many of them are packed with preservatives, hydrogenated oils, processed salt and many other artificial ingredients. Pre-cooked meals are especially bad for you after being reheated, delivering a nutrient deficient meal. Opt for fresh foods instead.
4 Energy Bars
You may grab protein and energy bars for a quick boost, but what do they really contain? Many of them are packed with soy protein, refined sugar, hydrogenated fat and a bunch of other harmful additives. But not all of them are bad for you, of course: just make sure you always check the label for the above-mentioned harmful ingredients.
This fatty substance lurks in several processed foods. Butter and saturated fats are harmful to your health, especially those derived from pasturised animals that feed on grass instead of corn and soy.
6 Diet Products
The "diet" label can easily fool, but let's break it down once and for all: a number of them contain artificial sweeteners such as aspartame and sucralose - both associated with causing neurological damage, endocrine disruption and gastrointestinal problems. Many of them also contain added chemical flavouring to replace fat and other natural components that have been removed in order to artificially reduce calorie content. Stick with naturally grown foods instead.
7 Soy Milk And Soy-Based Meat Substitutes
Best you aren't part of this fad. Here's why: not only are many soy-based products genetically modified, but soy additives are processed using a toxic chemical substance called hexane, associated with cancer, birth defects and other reproductive problems. Non-fermented soy is also highly estrogenic, which can kick your natural hormone balance out-of-balance.
8 Cured Meat Products With Nitrates/Nitrites
Sodium nitrate is a substance that often lurks in your deli meats, bacon and other meats available at your grocery stores, including chemical preservatives associated with heart disease and cancer. Meat eaters, best you stick with uncured, nitrite and nitrate-free meats, and opt for organic, grass-fed animals.
9 Microwave Popcorn
We know, what's a movie without popcorn, right? Turns out its damaging to your health: popcorn is one of the most unhealthy foods. Not only are the corn kernels genetically modified, but processed salt and preservative chemicals are used to enhance its flavour, which promotes disease. Microwave popcorn also contains a chemical called diacetyl, which is harmful to your lungs. Stick with organic kernels, and pop it yourself in a kettle and douse with healthy ingredients such as Himalayan salt and grass-fed butter.
